What is counselling?

Counselling is a collaborative process that involves a trained professional, known as a counsellor, who provides a safe and confidential space for individuals to explore their thoughts, feelings, and concerns. The counsellor offers support, guidance, and strategies to help clients overcome challenges, improve their well-being, and achieve their personal goals.

How can counselling help me?

Counselling can help you in various ways. It provides a non-judgmental and supportive environment where you can discuss your concerns openly. Counselling can help you gain insight into your emotions, develop healthier coping mechanisms, improve communication skills, enhance self-esteem, manage stress, and work through relationship issues. It can empower you to make positive changes and improve your overall mental and emotional well-being.

How long does a counselling session typically last?

Counselling sessions typically last around 50 minutes. However, the duration may vary depending on individual circumstances and my recommendation. During the initial session, we will discuss the ideal session length based on your needs and preferences.

How often should I attend counselling sessions?

The frequency of counselling sessions can vary depending on your specific goals, needs, and availability. Initially, weekly sessions are often recommended to establish a therapeutic relationship and make progress. As therapy progresses and you begin to experience positive changes, sessions may be spaced out to bi-weekly or even monthly. I work collaboratively with you to determine the best session frequency based on your unique situation.

How confidential is counselling?

Confidentiality is a fundamental aspect of counselling. I am bound by professional ethics and legal obligations to keep your personal information confidential. Exceptions to confidentiality may arise in situations where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or if there is suspected abuse of a vulnerable individual. We will discuss the limits of confidentiality with you during your initial session.
